My insurance company’s coverage of my birth control is laughably bad. It’s considered a “tier 3” drug despite there being no generic, so the ridiculously high co-pay is the same as the list price. There’s a “patient savings card” that saved me a lot, actually, and my old pharmacy had it on file for me. I lost the card when my wallet got stolen a few months back, but it wasn’t an issue until my insurance stopped being accepted at the old pharmacy, and New Pharmacy needs to see the physical card, so repeated, unanswered calls to an 800 number to request a new card are my only way forward.
I’m just lucky to be in a position where I can afford that absurd co-pay on one of the only b.c. pills I’ve tried that doesn’t give me terrible side effects (or, at least, they subsided after the first month).
In the meantime I’m really looking forward to August, when all insurance companies have to cover b.c. in its entirety. This whole thing gives me a stress headache.
